If you're reporting a problem, it helps enormously to include your iPhone model, your iOS version, and roughly where and when it happened.

Common questions

Do I have to share my location?

No. Location makes the live compass orient to the world around you, but you can search any of 32,000 offline cities, drop a pin, or save a place instead — and the app will report on that spot rather than where you are.

Does it work without a signal?

The important half does. Sun, moon, shadow, twilight, planting windows, activity windows and every field guide compute on the device itself. Weather, air quality, tides, river gauges and alerts need a connection, because those are live measurements from other people's instruments.

The compass points the wrong way.

Sweep the phone slowly in a figure-8 until north locks. Step away from vehicles, rebar and large metal surfaces — they pull the magnetometer badly. The app shows a recalibrate control when it detects a poor heading.

Why can't I scan my yard?

Full yard scanning uses the LiDAR sensor, which is only on iPhone Pro models. Everything else in augmented reality — placing objects, watching a shadow sweep, tapping a spot for its sun hours — works on any device that supports ARKit.

Sunrise doesn't match other apps.

That's usually correct rather than wrong. Shade Compass corrects sunrise and sunset for the terrain actually in front of you, so a ridge to your east delays sunrise compared to the flat-math horizon that most apps report.

Do I need to buy it again for Apple Watch?

No. One purchase covers iPhone and Apple Watch, including the widgets, Live Activities and watch complications.

I'm getting too many notifications — or none at all.

Every category is individually switchable in the app's notification settings, and most are off by default. If nothing arrives, check that notifications are allowed for Shade Compass in iOS Settings, and that quiet hours in the app aren't covering the time you expect them.

Are the hunting and fishing windows a guarantee?

No. They're a timing model built from sun and moon position, season and light. Fish and game don't read models. Hunting windows are timing information only — always verify legal hours and local regulations yourself.

What about my privacy?

No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. The privacy policy lists every service the app contacts and exactly what is sent.
